From Down Here
02:31
|

Thought I was up to what tomorrow might bring
I don't think that anymore
Thought of heartbreak as a little old thing
'Til it knocked me on the floor
And from down here, things look different
From down here, my point of view has changed
From down here, I got a fresh perspective
And ain't nothing ever gonna be the same
Thing about a bully I have always been told:
Stand up to him, he'll back down from you
Heard that since I was like seven years old
Never doubted it was true
But from down here, things look different
From down here, my point of view has changed
From down here, I got a fresh perspective
And ain't nothing ever gonna be the same
Oh, from down here, things look different
From down here, my point of view has changed
From down here, I got a fresh perspective
And my previous outlook on things
And the shift it's undergone means
There ain't nothing ever gonna be the same

Light Duty Guy

Don't run 400 horses, got 134
Don't go off-road, be crazy to try
Little Japanese 4-banger, who wants for more
Not me, I'm a light-duty guy
Still I'll take you fishing, help dig out a stump
Fetch a second-hand couch you might buy
Do fence demolition, haul trash to the dump
Yeah, I'm a light-duty guy
But when you need help with a heavier load
You find yourself traveling a steep rocky road
Your heart's broken down and you need to be towed
Don't call me, I'm a light-duty guy
I'll bring the firewood and blankets to spread
Big cooler so we don't run dry
And we can count lightning bugs lying in the bed
Just you and your light-duty guy
But when you go looking for someone to call
To build something solid, to go the long haul
You won't ring my number, that's not me at all
No ma'am, I'm a light-duty guy
I'll move you out when it's time you move on
I'll make it an easy goodbye
So you won't regret, once I've drove off and gone
Wasting time with your light-duty guy
'Cause I understand every man you might date
Can not be your promised and it's getting late
So the day he pulls up in his one-ton V8
You'll be through with your light-duty guy

The Shiawassee Watershed

An old forest trail off a quiet dirt road
Two tracks cut down to the sand
A knife in my pocket, a dread in my throat
The thrill of your hand in my hand
A Michigan summer, the woods full of sun
Time was a breeze through your hair
Brambles and thistles but you loved to run
Bare-legged everywhere
From under the ground, welling up, flowing down
This water will find its own way
From out of this mud, clear down to Saginaw Bay
From under our feet, to erase what it meets
Rising dangerous angry & grey
Just let it go, there’s nothing it won’t wash away
A bend in the river, a break in the trees
It felt like discovery
But from two rusted Stroh's cans bleached pale I could see
This place wasn’t discovered by me
From under the ground, welling up, flowing down
This water will find its own way
From out of this mud, clear down to Saginaw Bay
From under our feet, to erase what it meets
Rising dangerous angry & grey
Just let it go, there’s nothing it won’t wash away
